Tower Park · Fort Thomas, KY
Address: 950 S Fort Thomas Ave, Fort Thomas, KY 41075
Hello everyone, and welcome to my blog! Each week I will be reviewing a different park in the Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati area. I am from Louisville and enjoy going to all the different parks there when I’m home. But, since I can’t go to my favorites at home, I’m looking for some new favorites near my home away from home in NKY! Hopefully as I discover my new favorite parks, you all can discover you new favorites too! This week I am reviewing Tower Park in Fort Thomas Kentucky.
Favorite aspect of the park
My favorite aspect of Tower Park is the multitude of activities that are available for visitors. Just in the 30 minutes or so that I was there, there was a Zumba class, tennis and basketball practices, and kids playing on the playground. All of that is on top of the four-five miles of trails. When I have visited the park in the fall there has been a farmer’s market and group yoga going on. Visiting this park seems to be a great way to get involved in your local community.
Least favorite aspect of the park
My least favorite aspect of this park was the lack of maintenance done to the trails. When I visited it had just rained the day before and a lot of the trails were heavily eroded and a muddy mess. The mud is to be expected after the rain, but their erosion control (or lack thereof) was not good. Also, since a lot of the trails are so steep, the water rushes off quickly causing even more erosion.
Something that stands out
Something that stood out to me about Tower Park was that it has its own museum and dozens of historical structures on the property. Within the museum you can learn about “Military history from the Spanish American War, WWI, and WWII as well as other newer engagements, Fort Thomas Art and Artists, the Beverly Hills Supper Club, Highlands High Schools, and the Fort Thomas.” Conservancy.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I did enjoy this park. With its rich history, multitude of activities, and hiking trails, there is no shortage of things to do and explore here. There is a paved walking path around the top section of the park which is nice for wheelchair accessibility. Their trails are lacking a little bit. Most of them end up being extremely steep and difficult to maneuver and have not been made to handle rain well. If you like hills and like a challenge on your hike, definitely check out Tower park. Despite this downfall, the availability of so many other activities makes up for it.
