Hello everyone and welcome back to our regularly scheduled park reviews! This week I went to Eden Park in Cincinnati, OH. The weather has been so beautiful recently which makes visiting these parks even more enjoyable! Keep reading to see what I think about Eden Park.
Favorite Aspect of the park
There is so much that I loved about this park that it’s hard to pick just one! I think if it were open, my favorite aspect would have been the Krohn Conservatory. It’s a beautiful building and provides a great educational opportunity to learn about a variety of different plants. Unfortunately, because of covid, the conservatory is currently closed to the public. I hope to come back once it’s open and explore more. Since the conservatory was closed, my favorite aspect of the park that was open is the Hinkle Magnolia Garden. I came at the perfect time to see all of the trees in bloom. I felt like I was walking around in a fairytale and all I wanted to do was sit in the middle and have a picnic. I’m not sure how much longer the magnolias will be blooming, but if you have time this week, definitely go check it out.
Least favorite aspect of the park
I honestly don’t think there is an aspect of this park that I truly disliked. There is so much to do and see, it’s hard to complain about anything. If I’m going to be really nitpicky, I guess I wish there were some more trails/walking paths and the park is pretty hilly. There isn’t much that you can do about those things though, so I’ll just shut up and enjoy the park.
Something that stood out to me
What stood out to me most about this park was the wide variety of things to do and see. I’ll list a few:
The Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the Krohn Conservatory, Hinkle Magnolia Garden, memorial tree groves and paths, Mirror Lake and the Bettman Fountain, overlook of the Ohio river, a playground, sculpture gardens, a water tower and more.
What is so great about all of these things is that most of them are free to visit or are relatively cheap to get into. No matter your age or interests there is something for you to enjoy. I went for two hours when I visited the park and I think I still missed about half of the things to see. I guess that just means I’ll have to go back!
Final thoughts
Although I’ve only reviewed three parks on this blog so far, Eden Park is definitely my favorite. The beautiful gardens, well maintained paths, and variety of activities take the cake. One other thing that I like to mention about the park is its fascinating history. The reflection pond was once a 12-acre reservoir in the 1870s that pumped water in from the Ohio river. Part of the wall of the reservoir still stands and is used for rock climbing. There is also a historic standpipe (water tower) on the park property that was completed in 1894. There are so many interesting things to do and learn about in Eden Park that I think you’ll just have to go see for yourself.
